Depending on your campus, a bike would be a very good idea to use between classes. I suggest purchasing a cheap bike if you do not already have a bike and live on a risky campus. Some campuses have more vandalism and theft than others, so you make the decision.
My own campus offers a free bicycle sharing program. Any bike with the Bike Sharing sticker attached is free to use any time and anywhere on campus. There are only a few rules, they can’t be taken off campus, you can’t lock it (if you park it and someone else takes it, too bad, find another), and don’t abuse it.
I am not sure how many bikes are available, but the highest number I have seen written on one is 51. Also, with thousands of students, the bikes do start wearing out. The two most common problems I see are loose handlebars and loose seats.
A bike is also a great source of excercise, obviously. I have actually seen a growth in the tibialis anterior muscle (I had to look up the name of that one), after two days of riding around campus.
To be fair though, I did a lot of riding around. My Thursdays only have one class at 8:00 A.M., and I kept riding the bike around until about 3:00 P.M. with stops for food and wandering around the buildings.
My Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays have four classes however, but I still have time to ride around between my last three classes (all about an hour apart).
I have known about these sites for a while, they claim to be eco friendly by making all black pages.
Their thinking is that since black is the absence of light, screens simply turn off the pixels that display black.
That is not the case, the only screen that i know of that does do that are the new OLED screens from sony.
In all other screens, black actually uses more power.
In non-OLED screens, the pixels displaying black actually turn on brighter, then put a physical, dimming cover over them.
You can see this for yourself, make a simple image, the top half white, and the bottom half black. leave the screen on for a few minutes and feel the difference between the white and black halves. the black should be warmer.
i was reading engadget today, and i came across an article about an air powered car bein released in europe.
i have known about air powered Concept cars for a while, but now they’re in production.
since i started writing this, i tried to find the article so i could give an exact link. i ended up finding another (what i consider better) version of the one in Europe. it was released in India and can go 68MPH with a 125 mile range. It’s called the City Cat.
i am going to clarify my term “crazies”. if you are just somebody who is worried and asking questions, you are not a crazy.
however, if you are somebody who did not ask any questions, heard a rumor and are now funding “sabotage escapades” and attempting to “expose” and bring down all of the countries sponsoring the CERN project, then you’re a crazy.
Go ahead, be the Devil’s advocate, i, from what i know can and will argue both ways, given a reason.
About the CERN black hole thing, i learned online (well verified what i already knew), that black holes are like fires, they need fuel once they start.
CERN is conducting these experiments in a vacuum! a couple of particles in an empty “tube”
But black holes exist in the vacuum of space!!! some may say, even friends of mine (not crazies though, just playing “Devil’s Advocate”).
Well, about that, black holes start with a lot of mass, an entire star’s worth, possibly with a system orbiting around it. the relative size of the black hole to the system gives it fuel. the system is pulled in, and the black hole lives on.
there are vacuums everywhere, if you were to enlarge an atom to the size of a football stadium, the nucleus would be the size of a pin, placed in the center of the field.
you have to think of it relatively, the size of the vacuum in CERN to the few particles inside doesn’t come close to the one’s observed in space, so the black hole will peter-out.
I know i just posted a few minutes ago, but i thought i would put this under a different post.
I personally don’t think this is going to end the world, and i can safely call all of the people who do CRAZIES, and be safe in two ways.
first, if we survive… HA!
if we don’t, then this post, me and everyone of the no-longer crazies will be gone and no-one will know from that point on, a clean slate for a non-existent person.
of course… if the black hole is large enough, it will pull us in, WITHOUT damaging us! the crazies will be a little less crazy,(having been partially right) and we will all have survived and have been moved to a new part of the universe.(hopefully by a star or in some kind of orbit around one to sustain us.
The CERN particle accelerator was started up last night, while everyone in America was sleeping.
Apparently the particle accelerator is successful in one direction and they are going to test the other direction later on, it should be running normally in two weeks… We have two weeks before the world ends, time to accomplish all life’s goals and spend your life-savings before we find out that it doesn’t kill us all.
